About the team

Tyler Scott, Reporter

Tyler was born and raised in Michigan, and has lived in different areas of the state his whole life. He majored in political science at the University of Michigan, and is a reporter and on-air host for Michigan Radio. He’s very excited to be covering the 2020 election, and is interested in how the rural/urban divide in Michigan informs voters’ personal political beliefs, and how the decline in local news is affecting how residents stay informed and politically engaged.

Kate Wells, Reporter

Kate Wells is a Peabody Award-winning reporter and co-host of the Michigan Radio and NPR hit podcast series, Believed. She’s covered education, criminal justice, and spent the last several years investigating cases of sexual abuse.

She enjoys running and spending time with her toddler son, Jack…aaaand the occasional escape from news/politics/the world via trashy reality TV (hello, Bachelor and Love is Blind.)

Will Callan, Producer

Will Callan arrived in Ann Arbor in January of this year. Before that, in his birth city of San Francisco and across the bay in Oakland, he covered local news, operated the forklift at a lumberyard, test-drove autonomous vehicles, and worked as a substitute teacher for Oakland’s school district. He has lived on both the east and west coast, both northern and southern California, and in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

He likes trail running and the science-fiction writer Philip K. Dick. The 2016 presidential election coincided with his start as a journalist, and he’s grateful, this time around, to be learning from voters in the lead-up to November.

Jennifer Guerra, Executive Producer

Jennifer heads up special projects at Michigan Radio, and was executive producer of the Peabody award-winning podcast Believed. She’s also worked as a reporter at Michigan Radio, covering education, poverty, and arts and culture. Her stories have won state and national awards, and have been featured on NPR, Marketplace and Studio 360. She was a 2018 Knight-Wallace journalism fellow at the University of Michigan, and got her start in radio at WFUV in the Bronx.

Sarah Hulett, Editor

Sarah Hulett is Michigan Radio’s senior editor for enterprise and long-form reporting, helping reporters to do their best work. She’s also worked as newscast editor and spent five years as the station’s Detroit reporter, contributing to several reporting projects that won state and national awards.

Before coming to Michigan Radio, Sarah spent five years as state Capitol correspondent for Michigan Public Radio. She’s a graduate of Michigan State University.
